When you were a child, what did you want to be when you 'grew up'? Some answers might commonly be actor, model, astronaut, & paleontologist (Sam), professional athlete, etc. But then you actually find yourself in your career path, & all of a sudden your job title is a Data Security Analyst & you're working for some company you never would've heard of unless you were hired by them. WOAH. STOP. Where did the time go? You went straight from high school, to university, to your career & now you're working 9-5 every Monday-Friday. You reflect back that you never got to travel young, & now you don't have the time to. It can be pretty discouraging when you look back at your life. But don't feel stuck. Don't feel like you've wasted it, because you didn't. Everything happens for a reason. You just have to think of the reality.
For example, how many people have you heard of that got to travel young. People such as Jay Alvarrez, Alexis Ren, & Sjana Elise Earp might come to mind. Now, how many people do you personally know that get to travel all around the world young? There might be the few one or two that got lucky. However, the majority would be their parents could've paid for a family vacation, or even got to study abroad. But, they're all there for a purpose. Not for traveling & the culture, necessarily, but for a nice vacation, or to study. So in reality, you're chances of becoming a photojournalist who gets to travel around the world are slim. BUT not impossible.
Which is where I change the direction of this to a more optimistic attitude, and remind you of all your goals & dreams. They CAN be reached. They CAN come true. & If you really do want your dreams to come true; give it your absolute all, they can be achieved.
Now, what are your Goals & Dreams? Are they tangible? Are they realistic? I like to consider myself a imaginative realist; a real day-dreamer. My mind jumps from one idea, concept or goal to another (Thanks ADHD!). But I find that one of my most unique qualities, because my mind is always chasing to be the best that I can possibly be. & Look where it's gotten me! Over 30 thousands human-beings from around the world are looking at my photography, reading my captions, & fantasizing about the beautiful blue ocean. I am truly & forever humbled by you all.
I believe that we live in a generation that can create anything that we may have deemed impossible 10 years ago, & be it. Now that there is this thing called Social Media, your chances are even greater. One of my goals that I hold nearest & dearest to, is to build a career I don't need a vacation from. & Although I haven't entirely accomplished that yet, I am living-proof. It's just the beginning. & I believe anything can happen.
However tempting it is to sacrifice your savings for that trip to Hawaii, it's worth it to wait until you're older, done with school, & have vacation days in your career. But if you have that gut feeling that what you're doing is the 'right thing' (all interpreted differently by each individual), then go for it, Dream Chaser.
