Today, I had a late start. I woke up at 2:10pm, like I have been the last couple days I haven't had classes in the morning. I really must stop staying up so late.. or early, rather. Anyway, I couldn't be more nervous & excited at the same time because today is the day I start my fast. 7 days, no food. Only water & pure veg/fruit juices. A lot of you might think, 'what are you anorexic?!' & 'you don't need to lose weight, you're so skinny', 'isn't that dangerous?!'. However, that is not the purpose of my fast. Humans are able to survive without food for up to 30 days, so with close attention & listening to my body, I will be perfectly safe. My fast is also not for weight loss (even though that is a plus). The reason for my 7 day fast is to rid my body of all the toxins I've put in it over the past couple of years. A cleansing to reboot my bodies immunity, health, intestines, stomach & to clear my mind.
There's this saying, 'my body is a temple'. I would have to guess you've probably heard of scenarios of females using this, more particular than males, when referring to sex. For myself, it's a representation of how fragile & important our bodies are. What you put it, is given back to you. Basically, if you treat your body like shit, it will be in shit health/condition. Hence why you'll get a pimple if you eat unhealthy, etc. You only get one life, one body & one soul. Which is why I've decided to start my fasting journey.
So every day, for the next 7 days, I will write a blog post sharing my thoughts, emotions & experiences. This is a process I'm doing to reconnect with my emotions & another step I need to take to reach lightheartedness. I am very optimistic to finish my Day One.. Let's just hope I'm not hangry tomorrow. But if so, that is a natural detoxing effect. Especially from all the iced coffee's (caffeine). I want to listen to my body & learn to feed off of it's natural energy instead of relying on caffeine & other 'energy drinks'.
Also, I want to disprove this theory that makes people think they need to be near a tropical area to detox. You don't need to be in some remote third world country, surrounded by an ideal, humid, & vacation-like atmosphere. There is a different between a 'want' & a 'need'. Most people who aren't committed enough would say they 'need' to go to Bali (for example) to complete a spiritual cleanse to have that extra kick. But if you 'want' to free your mind & body so badly, it can be done so without having to put your life on pause. & I'm going to prove that.
The first step is stress-relief. Since, during my fast, I will continue attending classes & work, my life will still have it's stressful moments. So each day, I will take 30 minutes to meditate & clear my mind to start or finish my day fresh. Either on the beach at sunrise or at sunset with candles lite on my yoga mat. The only thing I will not be performing is my workouts. Since my caloric intake will be very low to none, I will need to save as much energy I have. So I will be practicing yoga, every other day. I also want try to connect with nature on a deeper level. Maybe sit down on a blanket & bird watch. Either way, through this experience I hope to inhale a positive mindset & exhale all negativity.
As of now, I'm going one step in with a big leap of optimism. & I hope that what I learn on this spiritual journey can inspire you to listen to your own body & learn from your own natural experiences.
