What started as an idea became a reality one year ago from today. I was new to the world of blogging, but familiar with website design. When I first started my blog, I didn't really think many of my followers would take the time to read it, honestly. I thought it would be a side activity to help share my opinions, values, photos, recipes, 'How To's & 'DIY's. The view count never mattered to me, nor did the likes. But when I started receiving DM's & comments on my Instagram telling me how much my blog has changed their outlook on life, I became overwhelmed with happiness! It was this crazy feeling that just made my whole body tingle.. I couldn't be more humbled because It's always been a goal of mine to be able to radiate light & love to other beings. Positive vibes are mega contagious. & that's what my blog is all about.
A year ago, I had this mere vision in my head. I started to get a bigger following on my Instagram, & I needed more room than a caption to share my thoughts on this world & it's natural beauty. So I asked one of my favorite bloggers / Instagram friend, @GypsyTan for advice on how the hell I could make my vision into a physical blog. I was a little lost as to what domain sites were the best, most creative, & would be available to myself. She suggested I make a trial account with Squarespace & play around with the templates until I designed something I like & to go from there. Sabrina told me a year ago as of yesterday, "I've only been doing it [blogging] for a year but it's still a learning process. I've come a long way but I taught myself everything with just trials & errors". & That statement couldn't be more accurate! After playing around with the minimalist template I fell in love with, I began to customize my blog. I designed my own codes to allow my blog to have customized features that no other blogs could have. But my website really sprouted into something else once I added my blue-toned photography to my white-based template.. it began to come to life. My vision of my blog turned into art.. right before the calm of the storm, it became an explosion.
One of my favorite aspects on what makes life beautiful is because it's fleeting, so transient. But a lot can happen within 365 days. So in honor of Child Of The Sea turning 1 today, let's reflect back on all the important milestones we've gotten to share together!
At first, I started by just sharing some of the products I was obsessed with or currently using. But I didn't want to be known for the fact that yah, I have a sand cloud towel. So I started to make my blog a little bit more personal. I wanted to use my life experience as a example to inspire others. So I made this blog post back in June 2015, Top 5 Ways To Brighten Your Days. My inspiration for this post was because I was having a bad day. So I thought of my options I could do to try to cheer myself up! All of which just brought an absolute smile to my face & made me completely forget about all the negativity.
A couple months later, I posted Goals, Dreams, & Reality. It was one of my first really deep posts about the reality of what we see people doing on social media & that you should always chase your dreams, whether they are applicable to your life or not. Then in January, I posted I Am Not Goals, I Am Me. Both of these posts contained such deep material straight from my soul to my fingertips. & All of the responses I heard were unexpected. Like I said, I didn't think many people would take the time to read my words.. But when I started receiving heaps of DM's & even Instagram posts about how I've inspired them to see the light in this dark void of the social media world, my whole freaking body became overwhelmed with an absolute bliss!
In September, my shop went live for my custom edit doodles! & Within the first year of my blog, I was able to raise over $1,000 through my Doodles For The Sea to give to two different organizations! That is just so incredible!! To see how many people have connected throughout the world who care about protecting our oceans, beaches, wild life & wild lands just as much as myself is surely a sight to see. As of now, Doodles For The Sea is in 23 States throughout the USA & 10 different countries as well as over 4k followers & supporters of my art via Instagram. I never thought my cause would grow so large! Let's keep fighting for our Earth & speak for the creatures who don't understand why!
The thing about my blog is I love to tell my story, but more importantly, I love to hear your stories. I'm not this perfect figure of inspiration because all of my inspiration comes from every soul that's touched mine. It inspires myself to become a better person & that I can overcome the darkness I face. Which I hope is something that everyone who follows me understands. That is the difference between myself & these 'insta-girls' who think that the amount of likes, followers & their terribly photo-shopped bodies justify who you are as a person. You are all my inspiration. I'm not saying it's the greatest blog, but it's my blog. & that's what makes it so dear to my heart.
Happy first birthday, Child Of The Sea.
